Spa at Delaire Graff

The Spa at Delaire Graff Estate is a sanctuary amidst the Cape Winelands. Forming part of the Estate's main building, the spa consists of a private reception, guest lounge and four treatment rooms. Outside, a 22m swimming pool and dining terrace is accessible exclusively to Hotel and Spa Guests.

Set within the landscape of the Cape Winelands, the spa deck at Delaire Graff Lodges and Spa is conceived as a sequence of outdoor rooms that balance openness with privacy. The design is organised around a twenty two metre heated infinity pool, positioned to align with extended views across the valley and to establish a clear visual axis through the site.

Surrounding the pool, a composition of sun loungers introduces a consistent material language, with deep blue upholstery and pale contrasting trim providing definition against the warmer tones of timber and stone. An Iroko timber pergola structures the space, its rhythm of vertical supports and overhead beams creating a sense of enclosure while remaining permeable to light and air. Billowing fabric canopies are integrated within this framework, allowing the character of the space to shift throughout the day in response to changing light conditions.

Timber screens are used to manage privacy without interrupting continuity with the surrounding landscape. These elements operate alongside integrated planting, where low planters and layered greenery soften the architectural edges and introduce texture at different scales. A custom designed water feature, formed from flamed and polished black Zimbabwean granite, provides a focal point and contributes a continuous acoustic layer, reinforcing the calm and sensory quality of the setting.

Adjacent dining areas extend the material palette, incorporating pale travertine table tops and patterned seating that reference local craft traditions in a measured way. The arrangement supports both informal and more structured use, allowing the deck to transition between lounging and dining.

Overall, the project is defined by a careful calibration of material, proportion and outlook, with each element contributing to a cohesive external environment that responds directly to its setting.
